Doug Flutie

Doug Flutie
Doug Flutie won the Heisman Trophy playing at Boston College before going on to star in the NFL, CFL, and USFL. In his senior year, he received First-Team All-American honors and earned Player of the Year from the Maxwell Football Club. He has dedicated his life to fighting autism with the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation.

  2. If he didn't play in the NFL he would have tried baseball
  3. His favorite professional moment was his first game back to the NFL in Buffalo, scoring on a last-minute quarterback sneak for the win

  5. His favorite place to vacation is his house in Florida, where he and his family love to jet ski

Brandi Chastain

Brandi Chastain
Brandi Chastain led the Santa Clara University Broncos to two NCAA Division I soccer quarterfinal appearances before becoming one of the brightest stars of the US Women's National Soccer Team. She is probably best known for her game-winning penalty kick against China in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final. Brandi is currently the volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater.

  1. Favorite books are “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”
  2. The first thing she thinks about when she wakes up is how much fun she is going to have today
  3. If she didn't play soccer she would have been a teacher or a surgeon
  4. The greatest life lesson she received was from her grandfather. He gave her a dollar for every goal she scored and a dollar and fifty cents for every assist. It is better to give than receive!
  5. Favorite place to visit is Algarve, Portugal
  6. One piece of technology she cannot live without is her Sprint phone
  7. Her favorite movies are those made by Pixar (thanks to her son Jaden)
  8. She loves peanut butter, banana and honey sandwiches

Clark Kellogg

Clark Kellogg
Clark Kellogg was the MVP of the Ohio State University men's basketball team in 1982. At Ohio State he ranks sixth in career rebounds and is a member of the prestigious 1,000-point club. He was the first draft pick of the Indiana Pacers and was selected for the NBA All-Rookie Team. Today Clark is a lead analyst on CBS Sports and Vice President of Player Relations for the Indiana Pacers.

  1. His favorite basketball court to play on is Madison Square Garden in New York City
  2. His favorite cities to play in are Cleveland (when he was in high school), Columbus (when he was in college at OSU) and Indianapolis (when he played pro ball)
  3. The best advice he would give to student-athletes is to be a “3 D person” – develop your mind, body and spirit
  4. His favorite place to travel is back home after he has been on the road
  5. His proudest moments as an athlete were when he won the State Championship in high school and when he was drafted into the NBA
  6. If he could play HORSE with one person it would be a rematch against President Obama
  7. He feels that being a father of a college athlete is off the charts! For him it has been fun and gratifying
  8. He thinks that Indiana is the “most basketball-crazy city” – it's in their DNA
  9. If he didn't play basketball he would have pursued a career as a financial planner/advisory or a teacher
  10. If there is one moment that he would relive it would be the 1980 Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis. OSU lost the game in overtime and it cost them the Big Ten Championship. If it could happen again OSU would win!

Lisa Leslie

Lisa Leslie
Lisa Leslie played women's basketball at the University of Southern California on the way to becoming a star in the WNBA and playing on the USA Olympic Team. At USC, she played 120 games, won a PAC-10 Conference Championship, and had four NCAA tournament appearances. She has recently been featured on ESPN, in Newsweek, and in Vogue.

10 Things You Should Know about Advisor Lisa Leslie

  1. The moment Lisa is most proud of was when she had the chance to represent the United States in four Olympic Games and earn four gold medals
  2. She says that the best part about living in California is being able to play her professional career in front of family and friends. Having great weather and award shows are definitely an added bonus!
  3. Her favorite movie as of late is "The Book of Eli". She also loves "The Color Purple" and "Pretty Woman"- such classics!
  4. Her mother has always been her role model because she is beautiful, hard-working and is always wearing her lipstick
  5. If she didn't go on to become a professional basketball player, after college she would have liked to have a career as a new anchor or weather reporter
  6. Her favorite book is the "Holy Bible "because it has so many stories that are inspiring, encouraging and helpful for in her life. She says it helps to keep her grounded and serves as a reminder to treat people with kindness and compassion even when they are working her nerves
  7. Her favorite place to visit is Italy because she loves the culture, museums and the tasty food
  8. Her favorite arena to play basketball in was the Staples Center where she played on her own court, "The Lisa Leslie Court,” which was named after her
  9. She never had a good luck charm while playing basketball, but she always read Psalms 91 from the Bible before playing. It is a prayer of protection
  10. Her second favorite sport to watch is tennis. She is a huge tennis fan and loves to play

Rece Davis

Rece Davis
Rece Davis worked as a freelance announcer, host, and radio personality while attending the University of Alabama. He went on to work as a sports reporter, news anchor, and host, eventually landing at ESPN in 1995. Rece is now the regular season host of College Football Live and an anchor on College GameDay as well as calling select college football and basketball games.

  1. Rece's favorite professional athletes growing up were NFL player Archie Manning and NBA player Julius Erving
  2. He always wanted to be an ESPN sports analyst but thought it would come after a long professional basketball or football career. He even wrote a paper on sports broadcasting as a freshman in high school expressing his interest
  3. His other career choices were either coaching or campus ministry
  4. Rece's favorite sport is a tie between college football and college basketball but he loves watching all sports
  5. He loves throwing batting practice, shooting hoops with his son and swimming with his daughter
  6. If he had the chance, he would love to interview Jackie Robinson because he would like to know what it was like to play four sports at UCLA
  7. He enjoys and looks forward to his annual family trip to Disney World as long as the Fast Pass lines are short
  8. Before he analyzes or anchors for ESPN, he always thinks of the 4 P's – poise, presence, personality and preparation
  9. His favorite movies are "O Brother Where Art Thou" and "A Fish Called Wanda"
  10. Rece's favorite indulgences are chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies; his favorite food is great Italian food

Jennie Finch
Jennie Finch is a three-time All-American pitcher and first baseman who led the University of Arizona Wildcats to a Women's College World Series championship in 2001. She also played on the USA national softball team, leading Team USA to a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games and a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

  1. Jennie's proudest accomplishment was winning the Olympic gold medal. Playing for our great country wearing the Red, White, and Blue was truly inspiring for her
  2. Jennie's favorite type of music to listen to is country and Christian music
  3. If Jennie wasn't a softball player she would be a teacher. She loves children!
  4. Jennie's favorite sport to watch is baseball. In addition to playing softball she loves to play volleyball
  5. Her role model is her dad. He taught her to never settle and to always be your best. If you're going to do something you're going to do it right he would tell her
  6. Jennie's favorite book is the Bible – so many words to live by
  7. Jennie is a foodie and having recently moved to the south Jennie is now enjoying all of the fresh seafood from the gulf
  8. Her favorite movie is A League of Their Own. She loves being able to watch history and hear about the pioneers of Women's Professional Sports
  9. According to Jennie, the hardest non-softball player to strike out is Albert Pujols – he's the most intimidating player that Jennie has ever faced

Barry Larkin

Barry Larkin

Barry Larkin played baseball at the University of Michigan, where he was a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year as well as a two-time first team All-American. During his 19-year career with the Cincinnati Reds, he was a 12-time MLB All-Star, a three-time Gold Glove Award Winner, a nine-time Silver Slugger Award winner, the 1995 National League MVP and a World Series Champion in 1990. Barry is currently an ESPN analyst on Baseball Tonight.


10 Things You Should Know about Advisor Barry Larkin

  1. Barry never wanted to play for a team other than the Cincinnati Reds. There was a time though he thought he might be traded to the New York Mets.
  2. His favorite stadiums to play baseball in were Great American, Shea Stadium and he loved playing in Dodger Stadium.
  3. Barry’s most memorable NCAA baseball moment was playing in the College World Series during his freshman year at the University of Michigan.
  4. His mother and father were and are still his role models. They have given him direction, discipline, structure and encouragement.
  5. Words of advice that Barry has to offer student-athletes are “at the end of the day, don't have to ask yourself what if ... what if I tried harder, what if I did this or that. Show conviction in what you do and try the best you can the first time.”
  6. Barry went to the University of Michigan on a football scholarship. He thought football was in his future, not baseball. He also thought of being a fighter pilot when he was younger.
  7. He enjoys training athletes rather than coaching teams. He likes the freedom of training as opposed to coaching.
  8. To Barry, being in the Baseball Hall of Fame means baseball immortality. Being in the company of the game’s best in the history of baseball is exciting and tremendously humbling to him.
  9. Being named the Big 10 Player of the Year twice was rewarding to Barry because at that time he was still deciding if he should attempt to play football. Winning the award convinced him to pursue baseball solely.
  10. The best way for a student-athlete to balance sports and education is time management. It is paramount!
